How the online CELPIP practice test works
- Pick a skill or a full mock. Each card shows the timer before you start, so you know how long you need.
- Work against the real clock. Type your writing and record your speaking in the browser. Timers match the official test.
- Get your level and feedback. Reading and Listening are marked automatically. Speaking and Writing get an AI estimate for each rating dimension, with specific fixes.
What a CELPIP mock test should include
CELPIP General is one computer-based sitting with four sections. A useful mock copies all of it:
| Section | Format | Official time |
|---|---|---|
| Listening | 6 parts, 38 questions | 46–55 min |
| Reading | 4 parts, 38 questions | 43–56 min |
| Writing | 2 tasks: email + survey response | 53 min |
| Speaking | 8 recorded tasks | 15 min |
The official test can also include unscored questions, which is why its time ranges are wider than the 38 scored items need. Full details are in the CELPIP test format guide.
Listening
Listening comes first, and each recording plays once. The question format changes between parts: multiple choice after a conversation, drop-down completions, and a video discussion. Practising those switches matters, because confusion over a new format costs as many marks as weak comprehension. See CELPIP listening practice.
Reading
Four passages: correspondence, a diagram you apply to a situation, an information text, and a viewpoints article. Time pressure is the main enemy. Most people who run out of time spent too long on Part 3. See CELPIP reading practice.
Writing
Two tasks, not essays. Task 1 is an email with a set purpose and tone. Task 2 is a survey response where you choose and defend an option. Aim for 150–200 words each and answer every bullet in the prompt. Raters score Content/Coherence, Vocabulary, Readability and Task Fulfillment. See CELPIP writing samples.
Speaking
Eight tasks, each with 30–60 seconds to prepare and 60–90 seconds to speak, and no second attempts. Speaking uses the same dimensions as Writing, with Listenability in place of Readability. A clear, complete answer scores well even with an accent. See the CELPIP speaking guide.
Turn your mock result into a CLB level
CELPIP reports each skill on a 12-level scale, and each level matches the same CLB number: CELPIP 9 is CLB 9. For Listening and Reading, count your correct answers out of 38 and check the CELPIP score chart. Raw score conversions vary slightly between test forms, so treat a mock level as an estimate. Speaking and Writing have no answer key. That is why our AI feedback scores each of the four dimensions separately, so you can see which one is holding you back. Then use the CELPIP to CLB tool to check it against your Express Entry or visa target.
After the mock: fix one skill for a week
One mock tells you which skill breaks first. Fix that skill before you take another.
- Listening or Reading broke: drill only the part that cost you the most questions until its format feels routine.
- Writing broke: rewrite the same two prompts, checking every bullet of the task against your answer before you submit.
- Speaking broke: record your weakest task five times, changing one thing each attempt.
Take a second full mock 7–10 days later. The first mock finds the problem; the second tells you whether your week fixed it. Back-to-back mocks just measure the same weakness twice. For a day-by-day plan, follow the 30-day study plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free CELPIP practice test online?
Yes. CelpipUni has free CELPIP mock tests that run in your browser, marked Free in the exam catalog, plus free practice questions for every Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking task. You don't need a credit card. A free account saves your results.
Is there a full CELPIP mock test?
Yes. A full mock runs all four sections in exam order (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) with official timing, about 3 hours in total. You can also take one skill at a time if you only have an hour.
Do I get a score on the free CELPIP mock test?
Yes. Listening and Reading are scored the moment you finish, with an estimated CELPIP level. Speaking and Writing get AI feedback that estimates your level on each of the four official rating dimensions and explains what to fix.
How do I practise for CELPIP online?
Take one timed mock to find your weakest skill, spend a week drilling only that skill's tasks, then take a second mock 7–10 days later to measure the change. Repeat until every skill is at your target CLB.
What is in a CELPIP mock test?
The same four sections as the real CELPIP General: Listening (6 parts, 38 questions), Reading (4 parts, 38 questions), Writing (an email and a survey response) and Speaking (8 recorded tasks).
How do I convert my mock test score to a CLB level?
CELPIP levels equal CLB levels (CELPIP 9 = CLB 9). For Listening and Reading, count your correct answers out of 38 and read the approximate level off the CELPIP score chart. For Speaking and Writing, use the AI estimate, since there is no answer key.
Is this the official CELPIP practice test?
No. CelpipUni is an independent practice platform, not affiliated with CELPIP, Paragon Testing or Prometric. Our mocks follow the official format and timing, but they are not official test materials. Official practice tests are sold on celpip.ca.
