Subject: So sorry! Running late for dinner!
Hey Alex,
I am so incredibly sorry about this, but I'm going to be quite late for our 7:00 PM dinner reservation at "The Urban Spoon" tonight. I'm absolutely fuming right now, honestly!
I was on my way, taking the Line 1 Yonge-University subway line, heading downtown towards King Station. Everything was going smoothly until we just got stuck between stations, specifically after leaving Bloor-Yonge. An announcement came on about five minutes ago, informing us there's a "major signal issue" affecting the entire southbound track, and they're holding all trains indefinitely. It's been about 25 minutes already since we stopped, and we haven't moved an inch. I'm still inside the subway car, currently stalled.
I've tried checking for alternative routes on my phone – tried to find a bus, looked for a taxi app, but all the connecting buses are either completely full or rerouted, and trying to hail a taxi right now is proving impossible with everyone else trying to do the same. It's absolute chaos down here. Given the situation, it looks like the earliest I can realistically get there is probably closer to 7:45 PM, possibly even 8:00 PM if this doesn't clear up soon. I'm thinking I might have to get off at the next accessible station and try to find a streetcar, but even that will be slow.
Please, don't wait for me to order! Go ahead and get yourself a drink or an appetizer. Maybe even order your main course if you're really hungry. I've already called The Urban Spoon on my cell and let them know I'll be delayed, specifying it's for the "Lee" reservation. They were understanding. Just tell them you're with my party when you arrive.
Again, I'm so incredibly sorry for the inconvenience and the delay. I was really looking forward to catching up, and now this transit nightmare has thrown a wrench into our plans. Text me if you hear anything from the restaurant or if you decide to start without me. I'll update you as soon as I have a clearer ETA.
See you when I get there!
Best,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,
Oh no, that sounds like an absolute nightmare! I'm so sorry to hear you're stuck on the subway, but please don't worry about it too much. These things happen, and it's completely out of your control.
Thanks for letting me know and for calling the restaurant. That's really helpful. I've just arrived at The Urban Spoon myself and informed them about your delay. They said it's absolutely and they'll hold our table. I'm going to go ahead and get myself a drink and maybe an appetizer, as you suggested. I'll probably hold off on ordering my main course until you're closer, but I appreciate the thought!
Just text me when you manage to get moving again or when you're about 10-15 minutes away. No rush at all, just keep me in the loop. I'll here and enjoy the ambiance.
Honestly, don't stress. Your safety and getting here eventually are the most important things. We'll still have a great time once you ! I've already picked out a couple of interesting appetizers we can share when you .
Looking forward to seeing you, whenever that may be! Just take your time and safely.
Best,
Alex
